From the director of The Triplets of Belleville, the animated French comedy L’illusionniste (The Illusionist) was nominated for the Best Animated Feature award at both the 2011 Academy Awards and 2011 Golden Globe Awards. It tells the story of The Illusionist, one of a dying breed of stage entertainers. With emerging rock stars stealing his thunder in the late 1950s, he is forced to accept increasingly obscure assignments in fringe theatres, at garden parties, and in bars and cafés. Then, while performing in a village pub off the west coast of Scotland, The Illusionist meets Alice, an awestruck young girl who believes his tricks are real magic. His life is then changed forever.
The drama La Orquesta de las Mariposas (The Orchestra of the Butterflies) tells the story of an old conductor who gets surprising support at a difficult time. In Spanish, with English subtitles.
