Synopsis
Fresno Filmworks presents “In Syria”, winner of the Panorama Audience Award at the 2017 Berlin Film Festival. Philippe Van Leeuw’s evocative and visceral depiction of modern day Damascus finds Oum Yazan, a mother of three, barricaded at home with her family above the ensuing war zone in the streets. Forced to find refuge amidst the destruction, “In Syria” provides an acute and honest portrayal of the reality of war, the nature of humanity and the struggle for survival. Reviews
"Even though all the violence takes place off screen, Van Leeuw pulls no punches showing its effects in close-ups, where the acting expresses the unspeakable horror." — Deborah Young, Hollywood Reporter |
". . .this tautly-constructed, intensely claustrophobic drama offers a sometimes nerve-shredding depiction of what happens when conflict impinges on domestic space." — Jonathan Romney, ScreenDaily |
