Nominated for Best Documentary at the 2010 Academy Awards, The Most Dangerous Man in America tells the story of Daniel Ellsberg, a high-level Pentagon official who in 1971 leaked 7,000 pages of top-secret Vietnam War documents to The New York Times. Hailed as a hero, vilified as a traitor, and ostracized by his closest colleagues, Ellsberg risked life in prison to stop a war he helped plan. The American independent film documents one man’s profound crisis of conscience that shook a nation, its courts, its free press, and its presidency to the core.

Prior to The Most Dangerous Man in America, Filmworks will honor the late local filmmaker John Kelly with a short retrospective of his work in a tribute reel directed by Steve Bryant with help from Jeff Ervin and Greg Amaro. For more than 25 years, Mr. Kelly worked as a cinematographer for countless feature films, documentaries, commercials, videos, short films, and more in the Fresno area. Also at the beginning of the program, Filmworks will present its juried awards for the festival’s short film category.
Starting at 6:30 p.m., the group Raging Grannies will provide entertainment.
