What do you do for a living?
I am an environmental specialist for the E. & J. Gallo Winery. I support several of the winery’s different facilities with being compliant with environmental laws. I really like my job. The company treats its employees well and I work with great people on interesting projects.
Where are you from originally?
I’m originally from El Paso, Texas. I spent the last eight years abroad and I moved back to the U.S. last year to be close to family again. I moved to Fresno for work and I’m enjoying exploring the Central Valley and the rest of California.
What are some of your hobbies?
Movies, of course. Movies are the best! They transport me to other worlds of awe and wonder. Other hobbies include traveling, seeing live music, reading, hiking, working out, running, swimming.
How did you first hear about Fresno Filmworks?
I discovered Filmworks by searching online for local film events. I think it’s great that Filmworks provides international and independent movies to the Fresno community. I consider that such movies offer us different points of view to contemplate and appreciate. When I saw that Filmworks also offered volunteer opportunities, I immediately signed up.
What’s your favorite film you’ve seen at Filmworks?
I’ve only seen two at the Tower Theatre so far, but I did really enjoy watching the French film “Being 17.” It’s a well-constructed story of two young men discovering their truer selves.
What other types of films do you enjoy?
I enjoy all types of film. All genres offer a different type of connection and experience. My favorite films include “Shawshank Redemption,” “Jaws,” “The Dark Knight,” “2001: A Space Odyssey,” and “Dances with Wolves.”
What do you think is the best part of volunteering with Filmworks?
The best part is connecting with other people that are passionate about film and contributing to the community’s culture. The bonus is knowing that you’re helping others enjoy their cinema experience.
What would you say to others who may be interested in coming out to a screening or getting involved?
If you’re a film lover and interested in Fresno’s growing art scene, then coming out and/or volunteering at Filmworks is for you. When you volunteer in something you’re passionate about, it’s never work. It’s fun!
