What You Gonna Do When the World’s on Fire?

Synopsis & Film Details

To open its 2019-2020 season, Filmworks presents the independent documentary “What You Gonna Do When the World’s on Fire?” a critical favorite at the Venice Film Festival. Italian filmmaker Roberto Minervini — known for his disarming portraits of marginalized populations, including his 2015 Cannes breakthrough “The Other Side” — directs the international co-production. The film tells the story of a community of Black people in the American South during the summer of 2017, when a string of brutal killings of young African-American men sends shockwaves throughout the country. A quiet but vivid meditation on the state of race in the United States, Minervini captures an intimate portrait of the lives of those who struggle for justice, dignity, and survival in a country that’s not on their side.  Assistive listening services are not available for this film.
