Join Filmworks for Art Hop and help pick our September movie


The Filmworks board researched and presented three films for our audience to vote on, so YOU can pick our September movie and 2019-20 season opener.

As we look ahead to our 2019-20 season, Fresno Filmworks wants to give the most loyal cinema fans in Fresno a chance to pick the movie for our September season opener.

Our all-volunteer board works diligently to track down first-run independent films that we believe need to be shown in Fresno. We discuss our film choices together every month and then vote for the one we think our audiences will like the best. This upcoming season, we want to do something a little different and put YOU in the driver’s seat. We’ve researched and presented three films and are letting our audience pick the one they want to see.

Moviegoers have already gotten a chance to vote for what they want to see at the Tower Theater during our last film of the 2018-19 season, Transit. For those who didn’t get to vote in person, the online voting form is still open!

Here’s a rundown of the three films you can choose from:

“The Silent Revolution”

“The Silent Revolution” is a 2018 German drama film directed by Lars Kraume.The film tells the story of a high school class in the German Democratic Republic, who have a moment of silence in their classroom for the victims of the Hungarian revolution of 1956. And then their lives immediately change.

“Too Late to Die Young”

“Too Late to Die Young” is a 2018 Chilean drama directed by Dominga Sotomayor Castillo. This coming of age tale, set in an intentional community in rural Chile in 1990, follows a teen girl named Sofía as she navigates adolescence.

“What You Gonna Do When The World’s On Fire?”

“What You Gonna Do When the World’s on Fire?” is a 2018 documentary directed by Italian filmmaker Roberto Minervini. A meditation on the state of race in America, this film is an intimate portrait into the lives of those who struggle for justice, dignity, and survival in a country not on their side.

Voting ends June 10 at midnight, and it’s one entry per person!
