March 2013 Volunteer of the Month: Nené Casares

Occupation: Retired after working on special events for The Fresno Bee for 40 years. (Nené also serves on the Filmworks advisory board.)

When did you first start volunteering? “A friend of mine mentioned Fresno Filmworks at dinner five or six years ago. They told me that this organization brings unique and independent films to Fresno, so I came to the screening first and then found out they needed volunteers.”

What is your usual volunteer job? “Selling popcorn, taking tickets, or helping with whatever needs to be done.”

What is your favorite thing about volunteering? “I get to meet and work with great group of people. I also have a chance to watch outstanding movies. I recommend anybody to volunteer. It’s an opportunity to get out of the house, do something, and enjoy films.”

Filmworks thanks all of our March 2013 volunteers: Nené Casares, Howard Hendrix (discussant), Laurel Hendrix (discussant), Linda Hernandez, Jenna Lange, Kristie Leyba, Mary Malesani, Sarah Nixon, David Pirl, Sholomo Pleban, Andrew Ranta, Alyssa Rendon, Gene Richards, Susan Rogers, Lorraine Tomerlin, Jon Veinberg, Olga Verkhotina (intern).
