Filmworks kicks off its fall season on Friday, Sept. 12 when it presents the multicultural romantic comedy “May in the Summer.” Two show times: 5:30 and 8:45 p.m. The movie, which has charmed festival audiences from Venice to Sundance, tells the story of May, a sophisticated and educated New Yorker who travels to her childhood home of Amman, Jordan for her wedding.
After the 5:30 p.m. show, Palestinian American filmmaker and the movie’s star, Cherien Dabis, will make a special appearance at the historic Tower Theatre to talk about the movie. Dabis first gained international acclaim in 2009 for her debut feature film, “Amreeka.”
From the critics:
• Roya Rastegar of the Huffington Post says the film “charts terrain rarely explored on screen: the emotional impact of building a life across multiple geographies — especially when the promise of return to one’s homeland continues unfulfilled.”
On our Film Forum blog:
• Meet Cherien Dabis, a triple-threat filmmaker, by our summer marketing intern, Rebecca Horwitz.
