Fresno Filmworks is a nonprofit, community-based organization dedicated to bringing award-winning independent, international, and documentary films to Fresno. The group strives to cultivate an appreciation of film art and to inspire audiences to a greater understanding of the world’s cultures. Since 2002, Filmworks has screened first-run films at Fresno’s historic Tower Theatre on the second Friday of each month. Beginning in 2005, Filmworks has also presented the annual Fresno Film Festival– a weekend celebration of film, which, in addition to programs of short and feature films, includes Q&A sessions with visiting filmmakers, panel discussions, and social gatherings. Filmworks is committed to screening its offerings in the 35mm format, which has all but disappeared from Fresno-area commercial multiplexes.
